President Bola Tinubu, according to Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, is keen to capitalize on the industry’s potential.
This was revealed by Oyetola in a statement announcing the Nigerian Port Authority’s 43rd Annual Council and 18th Managing Directors’ Roundtable for this year.
“This assembly of maritime experts is highly appropriate, as Nigeria is ready to offer the leadership required to transform our marine and blue economy potentials into realities to create opportunities for our expanding youth population,” stated Oyetola.
“We have given the Nigerian Ports Authority all the support necessary for flawless hosting to demonstrate the premium we place on maximising the emerging opportunities of AfCFTA, which is the focal point of the conference,” he continued.
Mohammed Bello Koko, the Managing Director of NPA, repeatedly emphasized the importance of the conference for the Nigerian economy.
“We are confident in our ability to lead the region in port competitiveness, as evidenced by our confidence in hosting this conference. We are also motivated by Mr. President’s unusual focus on trade facilitation, as he has already endorsed some of our initiatives for the optimal use of our littoral resources through the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.”
President Tinubu is slated to proclaim the event open on November 6, 2023, at the Lagos Continental Hotel Victoria Island Lagos, which is expected to host 24 littoral African countries.
The conference, with the theme “The Role of Ports in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA),” would offer a forum for the exchange of concepts, insights, and expertise.
