Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has stated that he did not teach Mikel Arteta the touchline behavior he exhibits during Arsenal games.

Mikel Arteta worked as Guardiola’s deputy at Manchester City until being named Arsenal manager in 2019.

So much has been made of Arteta’s antics on the sidelines, with fans and analysts split on how the former Spain international conducts himself during games.

Arteta’s excitement grows with each game as his chances of leading Arsenal to the Premier League title for the first time since 2004 grow greater.

In Arsenal’s Saturday Premier League match against Manchester United, the Spaniard was booked.

When asked about it during his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Guardiola admitted that he taught his compatriot some methods but never taught him his touchline antics.

Arteta’s behavior, according to the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager, must have stemmed from his parents.

“In the heat of battle, anything can happen on the sidelines. I taught him a few things, but this came from him, his parents, and his character, which was already there.

“I know him, and I received the impression while we were working together that what he was doing was genuine. Even as an assistant coach, he was always grumbling about officials during training sessions and games.

“That’s what it is. As a result, I am no longer a judge. Everyone is everyone, and I occasionally behave similarly.”
