Residents in Minna, the state capital, and the surrounding areas have reportedly been cautioned not to consume the highly deadly Aflasafe product by the Niger State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The food is not fit for human consumption, according to a statement made in Minna by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Idris Usman Gbogan.

“A report reaching me says some people are consuming the product, and apparently mistook it for Guinea corn,” he claims. It is a poisonous chemical that is employed to treat the plant disease known as aflatoxin.

Gbogan said that as soon as he heard about the incident, he acted quickly, contacting security authorities to send a team into the markets to carry out a covert operation to find the dangerous product’s dealers.

Additionally, the statement stated that “the security personnel went to the fields in disguise and located some of the distributors.

“They collected product samples and took them to the lab for additional examination. It was established that the substance was a deadly chemical that was only ever used to treat plant diseases and was extremely hazardous to consume.

He added that extension staff had already begun educating locals about the risks of ingesting Aflasafe.
