CAF Confederation Cup: Ogenyi Rivers United has to go to the knockout round

Evans Ogenyi, the coach of Rivers United, believes that qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup’s next round is crucial for the group.

On Sunday, the Pride of Rivers defeated Academica Petroleos de Lobito 3-2 in Angola.

While acknowledging that the team’s victory over the Angolans was well-earned, Ogenyi felt that the team needed to advance to the next round of the competition.

With nine points, Rivers United and Club Africain are tied for first place.

In order to advance to the next round of the competition, the former Nigeria Premier Football League champions must defeat Dreams FC of Ghana.

Sunday’s last group match will take place at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo between Rivers United and Dreams FC.

“We are worthy of moving on to the next round,” Ogenyi proclaimed.

The Angolan team is quite large, and we had a strategy when we arrived.

“We defeated them 3-0 in the first leg in Nigeria, and every other Nigerian team has become more proficient.

“We devised a plan knowing that the goal difference would ultimately matter.”
