Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has told his buddy and Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, that he is prepared to ‘fight on the touchline’ when the two clubs meet in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday.

On Friday night, Manchester City will host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in the first meeting between the two Premier League championship contenders this season.

Guardiola and Arteta have a great deal of respect for one another, since the latter worked as Guardiola’s assistant at the Etihad before taking over at the Emirates Stadium.

But Guardiola has warned he is ready for things to get hot during the match, adding in his pre-match press conference: “He’s a rival, of course he is.

“He wants to beat me, and I want him to beat me. I know how we are, and in defeat, we are not the best of friends.”

Guardiola explained that the respect he has for his former assistant as a person and as a manager will not lessen even “if we’re going to argue on the touchline.

“It will happen sooner or later.”
