Niger government signs contract for 25 LGAs’ worth of roads

37 businesses and the Niger State Government have inked a deal for the building of 556 km of roads connecting the state’s 25 local government areas.

Commissioner for Works Suleiman Umar and the representatives of the contracting enterprises signed the contracts, which were sealed at the Government House in Minna, the state capital, on behalf of the Niger State Government.

In a statement shortly after the signing, Governor Mohammed Bago said that in order to expedite development throughout the entire state in accordance with his urban renewal program, the projects have to be carried out.

Because of the severe lack of infrastructure in the state, our administration plans to build 2,000 kilometers of new roads over the course of the next four years. Currently, the state is receiving financing for infrastructure projects totaling roughly a trillion naira.

The governor stated, “All local government chairmen participated in the contract awarding process for the 2,000 km road projects, and the contractors were carefully chosen based on their performance history.”

However, Bago warned the contractors that if they drop the quality of their work, their contract will be terminated. They must maintain standards in their work and adhere to the scheduled timeline.

In order to obtain a list of trustworthy young people who may be hired to improve their lots, the governor further urged the contractors to support local content and establish connections with the pertinent ministries.

He then gave the contractors the assurance that the state will communicate with all pertinent parties to guarantee the safety of their persons and property and gave them the responsibility to exercise caution and notify the appropriate authorities of any suspicious activity.

Alhaji Mu’azu Hamidu Jantabo, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, stated in his remarks that his ministry has already hired a consultant who will supply the technical know-how to monitor the projects.

In order to ensure that the intended goal is accomplished, he also promised that the ministry will make sure that the projects’ beneficiary communities take ownership of them.
