In order to improve disaster management in Kaduna State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has requested that various stakeholders work together across agencies.
During Wednesday’s Stakeholders Review Meeting of 2023 Disaster Activities in Kaduna, the agency’s North-West Zonal Coordinator, Imam Garki, made the request.
When it comes to managing disasters, Garki stressed the importance of collaboration and synergy among emergency units and agents.
He went on to say that the gathering was a great chance for everyone involved in the project to bond and talk about the highs and lows.
“This meeting will serve as a platform for us to exchange insights, share best practices and forge innovative solutions to mitigate the impact of disasters and enhance our capacity to adapt and recover swiftly,” he said.
When it comes to crisis management, cooperation among reaction units and agents is crucial, according to Ishaya Chinoko, the interim Zonal Director of the agency’s North-West Zone.
Effective disaster preparedness and response is becoming increasingly important in defending communities, infrastructure, livelihoods, and the environment, he said, and the stakeholders must grasp this.
The catastrophic effects of natural catastrophes, such as windstorms, floods, and fires, have been seen firsthand, according to Chinoko, who emphasized the need of preemptive measures and coordinated response.
There are three levels of government involved in emergency management, according to Paul Aboi, director of the fire service and public safety department of the Kaduna state emergency management agency.
In his opinion, illumination was crucial in disaster management, particularly in the formulation of emergency plans.
“Natural disasters are inevitable, but we can lessen their impact,” Aboi stated.
