NEC gives instruction regarding chapter elections in Enugu Zamfara Edo and Kogi

If any doctor persists in advocating factionalization inside the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the NMA has threatened to use force.

This caution was issued following a study of chapter elections in the states of Enugu, Zamfara, Edo, and Kogi by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NMA. The elections held in those states were ratified.

The statement was released during the most recent NMA gathering in Abuja and signed by the association’s president, Prof. Bala Audu, and secretary general, Dr. Ben Egbo.

Drs. Chibuzor Ndiokwelu and Chukwuemeka Nelson Agbo were elected as chairman and secretary, respectively, of the Enugu chapter, according to the NEC’s approval.

The election results in Edo, Zamfara, and Kogi states were verified by the NEC, which ratified the interventions of the National Officers Committee (NOC) in settling electoral concerns in these states.

According to the resolution, “Furthermore, the NEC upheld the election of Dr. Chibuzor Ndiokwelu as Chairman and Dr. Chukwuemeka Nelson Agbo as Secretary of NMA Enugu State,” meaning that the resolution acknowledged that no petitions were sent to the NEC either before or after the election contesting the state’s electoral process.

A press statement was made available to journalists on Sunday in which Ndiokwelu responded by stating that “mechanisms have been activated via the regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies for punitive measures to curtail the activities of any Medical Doctor engaging in nefarious activities.”

Someone other than the Executive Committee headed by Dr. Ndiokwelu Chibuzo is making an illegitimate claim to represent the NMA Enugu State branch, he warned the public. It is the individual’s personal risk to engage in any transactions or relations with such impostors.

“Exco, headed by Dr. Ndiokwelu Chibuzo, has been duly validated and given the authority to oversee the operations of the Nigerian Medical Association’s Enugu State chapter for the 2024/26 fiscal year,” the statement read.
